New Delhi: With just one day left for the Olympic Qualifier to begin, Coach Michael Nobbs yet again expressed his confidence in his team, which he terms to be a combination of youth and experience.
Cheerful as always, he said during the press conference held after the morning practice session in Dhyanchand stadium that players were focusing more on penalty corners. Asked about Tushar who had some niggles, the coach said that he was fine now. “No injuries, nobody is sick,” said the coach.
Meanwhile, Sandeep Singh said that everyone knew about their responsibilities in the team and were also aware of the importance to chip in at crucial moment. Sandeep Singh also mentioned the influence of Dilip Tirkey in the team which has helped in strengthening their defence. Nobbs too was all praises for his team and also credited Dilip Tirkey for helping out Sandeep.
Indian team in the recent past has always carried the nemesis of conceding goals in the closing minutes. However Sandeep said they have planned strategies to close the gaps when any of the defenders move forward and added man-to-man marking will be continued.
Speaking about the team’s fitness, Captain Bharat Chetri said the team much better other teams as far as fitness was concerned.
India will not play any more practice matches prior to their first match of Olympic qualifier. “They played enough practice matches between themselves,” said Nobbs.
