New Delhi: Sushil Kumar, India’s ace wrestler and bronze medal winner in Beijing Olympics, put the Visa hassles behind him to come up with an impressive performances at the Dave Schultz Memorial International Wrestling Tournament in Colorado Springs, United States. Sushil beat the USA national Champion in the finals and received much pride for the same in the 66kg free style with two gold medals.
He was training for a month before the tournament and has been a great shape. Having started a good year for himself through this tournament Sushil is looking forward to all the championships this year with great zeal. The Indian team returned home with a couple of medals to their measure.
“This year is important for all of us and this tournament has given me a good start. I will be training all through the first half of the year and looking forward to all tournaments. It gives me great pleasure to have won in this prestigious championship and I hope to make it last.”
Others from the Indian team, Amit won in 55kg, while Rahul Aware and Praveen Rana also bagged silver medal winners in free style event.
"The performance has definitely boosted the morale in the camp. It is a world level tournament and we have been participating for many years. But, this is the first time we have won so many medals," coach Yashvir said.
Sushil after coming back from US will be focusing thoroughly on the Asian Qualification tournament on March 31 – April 1 in Kazakhstan.
