Doha: Two Indian shooters won quota places for the London Olympics on the final day of the Asian Shooting Championship at Doha. In 50M Rifle 3 Position Men event, Imran Hasan Khan of India booked an Olympic berth, while Manavjit Singh Sandhu sealed a place in the trap event.
Although, he was at 5th Place after the Finals, but as the first four shooters were already quota Place holders, the quota was awarded to Imran Hasan Khan. This is the 10th Quota Place for India. Sanjeev Rajput won the Gold medal in this event. His score of 1148+93. Gagan Narang won his individual bronze medal with a score of 1134+98. Imran Hasan Khan shot 1139+85.4 and remained on 5th position during Qualification and Final Rounds.
Second Quota place was won by Manavjit Singh in Trap event. Manavjit Singh went to the Finals with a score of 122/125. This was an excellent score in windy conditions and had a lead of 5 points in Finals. In the Finals, he shot 17/25 and won the Quota and Gold Medal. The team of Manavjit Singh (122), Mansher Singh (107) and Kynan Chenai (108) won the Silver medal.
In Centre Fire Pistol event, Pemba Tamang stood 4th individually. He lost the bronze medal to Vietnam in a tie shoot. Both the shooters were at 583/600 but in tie shoot Pemba Tamang lost to Vietnam. The team of Pemba Tamang (583), Vijay Kumar (564) and Mahavir Singh (561) stood 4th.
At the end of the Asian Shooting Championship, Indian shooters won seven gold (individual and 2 team), five silver and four bronze medals.
