Australian Open: Mirza, Vesnina in pre-quarters

Melbourne: Indo-Russian pair of Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina defeated Eva Birnerova of Czech Republic and Alberta Brianti of Italy, 7-5, 7-5 in the second round to advance to the women's doubles pre-quarterfinals of Australian Open Tennis Tournament here on Saturday. They will now fight it out with Australia's Jarmila Gajdosova and American Bethanie Mattek-Sands for a place in the quarterfinals.

 

The match that lasted for 1 hour 57 minutes saw both the pairs making a lot of unforced errors. The Indo-Russian duo had 33 unforced errors against their names compared to 30 which their opponents made.  Mirza, Vesnina with the help of 32 winners sealed the game and moved in the third round of the tournament.
