Ludhiana: India defended their title and kept their record intact by defeating Cannada 58-25 in the finals of men’s section of the Second Kabaddi World Cup which concluded at Guru Nanak Stadium here on Sunday.
Meanwhile in the women's category, Indian eves won the inaugural World Cup by defeating United Kingdom 44-17.
By virtue of their win, Indian men team became richer by Rs 2 crore, while the Indian eves pocketed Rs 25 lakh.
In the men’s section, the defending champions started dominating the proceedings from the word go and took a convincing lead of 28-13 by the half time. Indian raiders, Sandeep Dibra and Gagandeep Singh Kheerawali were the men to watch while stopper Mangat Singh Mangi also added some valuable points to the winning cause.
Meanwhile, the Indian eves despite being injured a couple days ago in a road accident near Bathinda, trounced England 44- 17 in a one-sided battle.
Earlier, Pakistan beat Italy 60-22 to secure third position in the men’s section.
The huge crowd, which had come to watch the finals, was treated to Bollywood extravaganza as stars Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone and Chitragnda Singh, RD Band from Canada, Punjabi singers Harbhajan Mann and Satinder Satti entertained the spectators.
Punjab Chief Minister, Parkash Singh Badal along with his deputy, Sukhbir Badal and Pakistan’s former premier, Ch Shuajat Hussain, Ruby Dhalla, former member, Parliament, Canada were among other dignitaries were present there at the stadium.
