New Delhi: Vani Kapoor, Gurbani Singh and Mehar Atwal will be among the top women amateur who will tee up for the annual USHA Delhi Golf Ladies Golf championships at the historic Delhi Golf Club from November 22 to 24, 2011.
The event is one of the categorised event for Ladies on the Indian Golf Union circuit.
“USHA International has been supporting women’s golf in various ways, whether it be tournaments or sponsorship for many years. It is part of our mission to empower women and help them attain international standards in all field,” said Siddharth Shriram, Co-Chairman of the Siddharth Group, which includes Usha International and Mawana Sugars. “We are proud to be part of the growth of women’s golf in India.”
“Over the years the growth story of women’s golf in India has been so encouraging that we are planning to expand our association with more events,” he added. “It is also nice to see our girls like Gauri Monga, Vani Kapoor and Aditi Ashok and Mehar Atwal excel in international events and they have also been giving the professionals a run for their money, literally. In fact Vani and Aditi have even beaten the pros in some of the events. I look forward to more stirring performances from the like at the Sri Lankan amateur, Malaysian Junior, the Queen Sirikit Cup and much more.”
Vani Kapoor, winner of the Usha Northern India Ladies, by virtue of which she now leads the Order of Merit, will be among the front runners for the title. Vani Kapoor is also the winner of Usha Western India.
The field will be one of the strongest assembled this year as Gauri Monga, the reigning All India Amateur Champion, has also entered the tournament. Monga, who has been preparing for her school leaving examinations this year, has been selective in the tournaments she has entered this season.
Mehar Atwal, winner of two of the tournaments, sponsored by Usha, the Southern India Ladies and Pune Ladies will tee off as will Gurbani Singh, who won the Army Ladies event.
Aditi Ashok, who like Vani has been storming the pro bastion with a win, while still being an amateur, will also add to the field.
The event, which is Categorised will go a long way in determining the Order of Merit, where Vani, Gurbani and Mehar Atwal are locked in a tight battle.
Vani, Monga and Aditi were also part of the Indian team that excelled at the same course at the Usha Queen Sirikit Cup in March. They finished fourth and Monga, also fourth among individuals will look forward to returning to the DGC, which is all set for the event, which takes over from Northern India, which used to be a traditional event at DGC along with Usha.
The tournament will be a 54-hole affair.
Usha will also sponsor the All India Amateur event in Chandigarh this year and later in 2012, they will add the Eastern India Ladies.
