New Delhi: The seven times World Champion Michael Schumacher who made a comeback to the Formula One in 2010 with Mercedes Benz feels that his expectations haven’t been met yet. The Formula One legend emphasized on the point saying that he returned to attain the number one spot again but hasn’t been successful in doing it so far.
"I have not met my expectations since my comeback in 2010. We all had different expectations, winning races was my target and that has not been achieved. All of us know only one taste that is of success and I would like to only have that taste,” added Michael.
Michael who was associated with Ferrari for 11 years and won five of his seven championships with them retired from racing in 2006 served as an advisor for Ferrari. He was supposed to replace Ferrari’s Felipe Massa in the second half of the season in the 2009, but a neck injury foiled his plan.
Schumacher finally made a comeback in 2010 when he signed a three year contract with the newly formed Mercedes Benz Team, but had a disastrous season with no significant achievement under his belt throughout the season. In the current season he is placed at the eight position. With three more races to go in the season, Michael wants to finish the season on a high and expects a finish at the podium.
“When I joined them, I had different expectations. But unfortunately it could not be met. We are a new team and currently at the learning stage. We have to be patient and work very hard and lay the foundation step by step. All of want to win at the end of the day and I would definitely like to taste victory very soon,” added the legendary driver.
Nothing is absolutely safe: Michael Schumacher
With motor sports fraternity seeing two deaths in the last week, Michael Schumacher said that the safety standards in Formula One is far more high and has improved significantly since the death of Brazillian driver and motorsports legend Ayrton Senna in 1994.
“F1 safety standards have improved drastically since Senna’s death. But then total safety does not exist anywhere in the World. While we are driving we feel absolutely safe. I feel comfortable when I drive the car to the limit. In all the new tracks, including this one, there are huge run-off areas and if anything happens this then it is fate,” he added.
Button heaps praise for Narain
McLaren Driver Jenson Button who used to drive against Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan during his Formula Three days feels that he has got talents and is really a very great driver.
“I used to race against Narain during our Formula Three days. He was superfast and won two back to back races against me. He was untouchable during those days. He is a great driver,” said Jenson.
Narain who races for Hispania Racing is currently placed 26thmade his debut in 2005 for Jordan racing has not been able to prove much in the Formula One. “It’s not his fault. He is a great driver but unfortunately the car he is driving is the probably the slowest of them all. So you can’t expect more out of him with this car,” added the British driver.
