New Delhi: Gurbani Singh, stitched together a string of four birdies on the back nine, to lead sixth placed Indian Golf Union (IGU) Ladies Tour golfer Astha Madan by one stroke at the end of Day 1 of the Usha Northern India Ladies & Junior Girls Golf Championships 2014, being played at the lush green Delhi Golf Club, New Delhi.
Gurbani Singh, who tops the current Order of Merit list of the IGU Ladies Amateur Golf Tour, capped a stellar performance on the day with a total of four birdies to card a one under par 71.
Astha Madan finished with a score of 72, just one stroke behind, but carded four bogeys to Gurbani’s three to certainly be the most consistent golfer on show. She also had four birdies on the day.
Gurbani Singh was the only one to card a sub-par round on the day. Vidushi Sinha and Ridhima Dilawari trailed behind by returning a card of 2 over 74 sharing a joint third position.
Vidushi is placed at number 14 in the Order of Merit list of IGU Ladies Tour and Ridhima Dilawari is placed at 4th position. Winner of last year’s Usha North Indian Ladies and Amateur Golf Championship, Gaurika Bishnoi had a bad play on Day 1, carding a whooping 9 over 81 at the end of day’s play.
Other notable names in the top 10 included Amandeep Drall, Dolma Rawat, Riya Ahuja (75), Arushi Pandey (77), lying at joint fourth and fifth position respectively. The next two days therefore promises to be intriguing and highly competitive.
