Sub-jr National Women C’ship: Chandigarh, Odisha and Jharkhand win

Sub-jr-National-Women-C-shipNew Delhi: : In today’s exciting matches, played among Pool C and Pool D teams, in the 4th Hockey Sub-Junior National Women Championship 2014 (Division A), being played at Pune, Maharashtra, Chandigarh Olympic Association, Hockey Odisha and Jharkhand clinch their second consecutive win in their respective matches.

In a Pool D match, Chandigarh Olympic Association marked their second win in the championship by defeating Bengal Hockey Association 23-0. Bengal Hockey Association was seen on their back foot throughout the game as Chandigarh Olympic Association did not allow them to put up a fight. The first half of the game saw the first goal in the 8th minute which came through Chandigarh Hockey Association’s Manisha, immediately backed by Shalu Mann in the 12th minute and Sharmila in the 16th minute of the match.

With a total of six goals on board, Chandigarh Olympic Association dominated the first half in a nominal way. It was only in the second half of the game, that Chandigarh Olympic Association went all out and pounded Bengal Hockey Association with a massive seventeen goals. Chandigarh Olympic Association’s Captain Saroj justified her leadership as she alone contributed eight goals and became the top scorer for the team, followed by Shalu Mann with six goals to her credit. Bengal Hockey Association suffered a huge 23-0 loss as they failed to restrict the beating coming from Chandigarh Olympic Association.

In another Pool D match, played between Hockey Odisha and Assam, the match saw a similar goal shower as Chandigarh Olympic Association Vs. Bengal Hockey Association, as Hockey Odisha went on to claim their second victory in the championship by defeating Assam with a margin of 18-1 goals. It was in the 9th minute of the match when Priyanka Kujur of Hockey Odisha opened the account for the team supported by other team members, which helped in registering a splendid win for the team.

With 6-0 on board by the 29th minute of the match, it was Assam’s Milka Surin who found her way to sneak in a goal in the 31st minute to help Assam open their account and show little signs of challenge, but the goal proved to be their first and the last goal itself as they failed to do any further damage thereafter. Hockey Odisha sliced eleven more goals in the second half of the game and notched up their total to an astounding 18 goals and registering their second win. The top scorers for Hockey Odisha were Elima Minz with four goals to her credit at the top, followed by Sarojini Ekka and Marjana Kujur with three goals each.

In a Pool C match, Jharkhand defeated Delhi 10-0 and recorded their second win in the championship. A total of seven members of Jharkhand contributed towards the winning score, where Captain Sitamani Topno sliced in three goals and became the top scorer for the team.

It was Jharkhand’s Betan Dung Dung who opened the account for the team in the 13th minute of the game as a field goal, followed by Albela Rani Toppo and Reshma Soeng in the 22nd and 27th minute to close the first half of the match with a 3-0 lead. Delhi on the other hand failed to make comeback in the second half of the game and were pounced with seven more goals instead. Delhi was seen fumbling on both their defence as well as attack throughout the game and hence suffered a 10-0 loss against Jharkhand.
