Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field first in what was a must win match for Bangalore in order to saty alive in the tournament. Bangalore went off to a good start with the ball in hand as Mitchel Starc struck early for RCB by removing the KKR skipper Gautam Gambhir early. Manish Pandey who has been in decent touch came in after the fall of the first but could not do much as he was soon sent back to the pavilion by Ashok Dinda.
Robin Uthappa on the other hand was unperturbed by the loss of wickets at the other end and kept playing his strokes which kept the scorers busy. Yusuf Pathan seemed to have regained his confidence after a couple of good knocks but soon ran himself out after a good second wicket partnership which added 33 quick runs.
Shakib ul Hasan has been in tremendous touch and he carried on from he left in the last game. Shakib took the attack to the opposition and was particularly brutal against the leg-spinner Y Chahal, hitting him for three sixes and one four in one over. Uthappa kept on the momentum as he kept finding the gaps in the field and together the duo added 121 runs before Shakib was dismissed by Abu Nechim.
Mitchel Starc was the pick of the bowlers who gave away 32 runs in his quota of 4 overs and also picked up a wicket. The rest went for plenty as the veteran off-spinner Muttiah Murlitharan failed to even complete his full quota of 4 overs. KKR managed to post a match winning total of 195 for the loss of 4 wickets, thanks to Robin Uthappa who scored 83 runs and remained unbeaten. Shakib gave him good support as he scored his first fifty in the IPL.
Bangalore had little choice but to get off to a good start but it has been that kind of a season for them. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals and apart from Virat Kohli and Y Takawale nobody really threatened to take the match away except for the brief period by Yuvraj Singh. Bangalore at the end fell short by 30 runs as KKR qualified for the playoffs.
