Nottingham: After England negotiated the Friday’s morning session without losing a wicket, Indian seamers led by Ishant Sharma struck back to reduce England 352 for nine in reply to India's first innings 457 at stumps on the third day.
Ishant took three for 29 in seven overs to turn 131 for one into 172 for four, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar too bowled well on a placid wicket to take four for 61 in 25 overs. Kumar had earlier made his highest Test score of 58 during a record tenth-wicket partnership of 111 with Mohammed Shami (51 not out) that put India on top.
However, England number 11, James Anderson alongwith Joe Root was on the crease. At the end of day three, Root was 78 not out and Anderson was unbeaten on 23, and had added 54 runs for the last wicket.
Ishant struck in the very second over as Robson was unlucky to be given out leg before by Australian umpire Bruce Oxenford as there was clearly an inside edge. Bell, who took on to the crease, started with a flurry of boundaries as the England reached 150 in the 55th over. Soon, thereafter, Ishant trapped Ballance leg before and five overs later took Bell’s wicket, who was caught behind, playing an shot to a short ball.
Moeen Ali (14 runs, 30 balls, 3 fours) then added 25 runs for the fifth wicket with Root, but he too misjudged another short delivery, this time from Shami as the ball looped up off his gloves and was caught in the slips.
Kumar then struck twice, removing Matt Prior (5) and Ben Stokes (0), both caught behind by Dhoni. It meant England lost six wickets in the session of 25 overs and scored only 74 runs.
