Parsvnath Chess: Abhijeet maintain sole lead

Abhijeet-Gupta-Parsvnath-ChessNew Delhi: Overnight sole leader Abhijeet Gupta maintained his sole lead with seven points in the ongoing 12th Parsvnath International Open Grandmasters Chess Tournament here at Ludlow Castle Sports Complex today.

Playing with white pieces in an English opening game, Gupta signed the peace treaty with International Master Ankit Rajpara in 24 moves to maintain his one point lead. A pack of seven players, including Bobir Sattarov of Uzebkistan who had a dream run in the event as he held Grandmaster Lalith Babu in the eighth round.

Grandmasters Eldar Gasanov, Valeriy Neverov of Ukraine John Paul Gomez of Philippines and Russian Grandmaster Alexander Evdokimov giving company to Lalith, Rajapra and Sattarov at joint second spot with six points.

In the penultimate round tomorrow Gupta takes on Evdokimov while Lalith paired with Gomez. Sattarov plays with Neverov to complete his nine round GM Norm as he already completed the requirements and just need to play the ninth round to achieve the same.
