Punjab beat Delhi 10-0 in 4th Junior Men National Championship

hockey-200Chennai: Delhi was left stunned on the field as Punjab’s Ajit Pandit and Harmanpreet Singh cleared the victory path for the team with three goals each to their credit on Day-3 of the 4th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2014 (Division A) played in Chennai today.
 

In Pool A match, Punjab was seen dominating the game from the 8th minute of the first half itself with the help of Ajit Pandit, as they went on to register a massive win against Delhi with a margin of 10 goals to 0. Punjab’s Harmanpreet Singh and Ajit Pandit both cashed on to three goals each where Harmanpreet Singh stroked goals in the 13th, 16th and 59th minute and Ajit Pandey penetrated two more goals in the 40th and 56th minute to achieve his total of three goals. With the team’s support with the likes of Shamsher Singh, Baljinder Singh, Parvinder Singh and Ashdeep, Punjab registered a glorious 10-0 win.

In a Pool C match, Haryana delivered a similar result as Punjab by thrashing Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy 7-0. By the end of the first half of the match Haryana established a successful 4-0 starting from the 8th minute itself with the help of Ravi Choudhary perfected penalty corner, followed by Manpreet’s two fiery field goals in the 14th and 27th minute supported by Nikhil Saroha’s in the 31st minute. Manpreet became the top scorer for the team as he pocketed a total of three goals. Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy on the other hand failed to penetrate and impress throughout the game as they lost the fight with a brutal 7-0.


In another Pool C match, a rather interesting fight was witnessed between Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand as the latter penetrated the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute through Nitesh Kiro as a field goal and took the lead in the game until Hockey Uttar Pradesh’s Raju Pal replied with equal anxiety and leveled the scores at 1-1 in the 29th minute of the match and tied the game till the end of the first half. The exchange of goals continued in the second half too, as Uttar Pradesh’s Manish Rajbhar sliced in a goal in the 47th minute and got answered back from Jharkhand’s Budhram Dodrai in the 59th minute. Last ten minutes of the game proved to be crucial for the game as Uttar Pradesh managed to penetrate two winning goals with the help of Arjun Yadav and Rajiv Ranjan in the 64th and 70th respectively and recorded a 4-2 win over Jharkhand.
