Mirpur: Kumar Sangakarra played an innings of his life as he hit a scintillating 52 off 35 balls to help Sri Lanka lift their maiden World Twenty20 title by beating India by six wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium here on Sunday.
Sri Lanka chased down the 131 target with 13 balls to spare.
Sangakkara, who along with Mahela Jayawardene was playing their last T20 match, hit six boundaries and a six for his 52 while Mahela contributed 24 runs.
Earlier put into bat, India lost opener Ajinkya Rahane in the second over before Kohli and Rohit Sharma added 60 runs for the second wicket. However, Yuvraj was a big disappointment as the left-hander failed to capitalize and struggled to find the middle of the bat, taking up 21 balls to score just 11.
Sri Lanka bowled brilliantly in the death overs and restricted India to 130 in 20 overs. Kohli once again top-scored with 77 off 58 balls.
