ISSF World Cup: Manavjit Sandhu wins gold medal in USA

Manavjit-Singh-Sandhu-2New Delhi: Manavjit Singh Sandhu made country proud with his gold medal winning performance at Tuscon, USA during ISSF World Cup in Trap event. This was the first World Cup of four World Cups in shotgun events, which would be organized by ISSF during this year.

Manavjit Singh started his second day with a score of 72, which he shot on previous day. With his consistent performance, he shot 25 and 24 in the remaining two rounds and was ranked at 3rd place in the Qualifying round. His series scores were 24, 25,23,25 and 24 in the Qualification Round.

In the Final round, with his excellent performance, he has beaten Michael Diamond of Australia, who is two-time Olympic Gold medalist with a big margin. In the final round, his shot 13 whereas his rival could shoot only 9.

Manavjit Singh Sandhu – Rajiv Khel Ratna Awardee-- is 2006 World Championship in Trap event. He also won Gold medals at ISSF World Cup in 2010 held at Mexico. At the Asian level, he won Gold medals in 2012 Asian Shooting Championship and Quota Place for 2012 Olympic Games and also in 2nd Asian Shotgun Championship at Patiala.

In the Women section, Shreyasi Singh stood 6th in the Finals of Trap women event. Her Qualification Score was 66/75 and in the Finals, she could shoot only 8 and was ranked 6th.

The Double Trap event will be conducted on 13/14th April 2014 in which Ronjan Sodhi, Modh Asab and Ankur Mittal are participating.
