National Shooting C'ship: Bindra wins gold in Air Rifle

abhinav-bindra 6New Delhi: Beijing Olympic Gold medallist won the gold medal in the 10-meter Air Rifle event on the last day of 57th National Shooting championship at Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Ranges, New Delhi on Tuesday.

Meanhwile, Ravi Kumar of Air Force bagged the "Champion of the Champions" title in Air Rifle event by defeating Olympian Sanjeev Rajput of Navy.

Pemba Tamang of Army won the gold in Center Fire Pistol while Olympic silver medallist Vijay Kumar was on second place.

Sports Minister Jitendra Singh awarded medals to the shooters in the prize distribution ceremony and congratulated all medal winners.

Olympian Abhinav Bindra shot 208.9 to to win the gold in the finals against Chavanke Ashok of Army in 10m Rifle event. Chavanke scored 204.3 and bagged silver, while another Olympian Sanjeev Rajput of Navy shot 182.8 to claim the bronze.


Abhinav was third in the qualification but he fought with a good spirit and won the title in the finals. Gagan Narang could not make it to the finals of 10m Air Rifle.

Punjab shooter Ekambir Singh Mandi scored 616.8 for gold in 10m Rifle men's Junior event while Akhil Sheoran of U.P. had to be satisfied with silver medal on equal score. The bronze medal also went to Punjab's shooter Harmanvir S. Mansahia, who scored 614.3 points.

Pratik C Borse of Maharashtra bagged the gold with 612.6 in the Youth category of 10m Air Rifle while the silver medal went to his team-mate Vinaykumar S Patil, who scored 610.4 points. Haryana's Prashant claimed bronze with 608.8 score.


At the 25-meter range, Pemba Tamang of Army clinched the gold medal in Centre Fire Pistol event with 583 score, while his team-mate Olympic silver winner Vijay Kumar won the silver on 579 points. There was a tie for bronze medal between Commonwealth Games medallists Harpreet Singh and Omkar Singh, both from Navy on a equal score of 578. Harpreet won the bronze with 50/50 against Omkar's score of 46/50 in the tie-shot.

Samarjit Singh of Uttarakhand won the gold in the junior category of Centre Fire pistol with 563 whole Army's Neeraj Kumar and Pradeep claimed silver and bronze with 561 and 560 points, respectively.
