Mohali: Resuming at 306 for 2, Punjab went on to score 560 for six wickets in 150 overs before declaring the innings closed 20 minutes before tea on the 3rd day at PCA Stadium, Mohali on Tuesday.
Taruwar Kohli and Mandeep Singh continued to milk the Odisha bowling and their third wicket stand realized 282 runs before Taruwar Kohli was caught by Mangaraj off Deepak Behara for 144 off 319 balls inclusive of 20 boundaries and one six.
Odisha met with another success soon after as southpaw Uday Kaul was trapped in front by Dheeraj Singh for 02.
Thereafter, Mayank Sidana joined Mandeep Singh and the two put on 40 runs for the 5th wicket before Mandeep Singh was castled by Mangaraj for a well made 175 studded with 18 boundaries and two huge sixes.
Mayank Sidana was joined by Amitoze Singh and the duo added 64 runs for the 6th wicket before Mayank Sidana was caught by Samantre off Gobind Podar for 48 off 83 balls inclusive of 6 boundaries.
Skipper Harbhajan Singh and Amitoze Singh added 77 runs for the unbroken seventh wicket stand. Amitoze was unbeaten on 56 off 70 balls with 6 boundaries while skipper Harbhajan Singh clobbered an unbeaten 49 off 40 balls studded with 4 boundaries and two sixes.
For Odisha Deepak Behra 2 for 108 and Dheeraj Singh 2 for 105 were the main wicket takers.
Trailing by 355 runs on the first innings Odisha started on a dismal note losing both their openers with 13 runs on the board in 6.3 overs. Both the openers Grirat Rout and Natraj Behra were dismissed by medium pacer Sandeep Sharma.
Then Niranjan Behra unbeaten 42 and Gobind Poddar unbeaten 52 added 97 runs for the unbroken 3rd wicket stand. Odisha were 110 for 2 in 30 overs at close of 3rd days play. They are still 245 runs behind Punjab on the first innings.
