New Delhi: Hockey India won the rights to host 2018 Senior Men’s World Cup after it presented a strong bid to FIH. The other countries shortlisted were Malaysia, New Zealand, Australia and Germany. The India bid showcased the futuristic vision of Hockey India to revitalize Hockey in the sub-continent and growth of the sport on a global level.
Hockey India Secretary General Dr. Narinder Batra said it is a proud moment for Indian Hockey to be once again given the responsibility of hosting Senior Men World Cup in 2018. I would like to specially thank Federation of International Hockey (FIH) who have reposed their faith in us to host this prestigious event in 2018. “This has been only possible with the extraordinary efforts put in by Hockey India Chief Executive Officer, Ms Elena Norman and her team” added Dr. Batra.
“Hockey has been in the heart and mind of all Indians, we are focussed to re building and re energising the sport and bringing back the glory of our former years, the efforts put in by Hockey India in last few years not only by conducting the International events but also managing the Federation in a professional manner has been reflected in this wonderful achievement. India will showcase to the world our Hockey growth both on and off the field of play” said Dr. Batra.
“In next five years it would be endeavor of Hockey India to improve the present hockey infrastructure in the country with the support and guidance of Government of India, Sports Authority of India and all the stakeholders. Also, most importantly the best possible training and support would be provided to the hockey teams to enhance their performance at every level for achieving best results in World Cup 2018” he said.
Dr. Batra said the forthcoming 10th edition of the Hero Hockey Junior World Cup Men 2013 will showcase to the world, Hockey India’s ability to deliver one of the best events in the World.
