Goa: Sporting Clube de Goa continued their fairytale run in the Airtel I-League with a 3-0 demolition of Rangdajied United, their third win on the trot.
Ogba Kalu, Deepak Devrani and Boima Karpeh scored a goal each against the visitors as Sporting Clube turned easy victors in their fifth round I-League clash at the Duler Stadium, Goa, on Thursday.
Having scripted a dream win against Mohun Bagan in the previous clash, and that too in their own den, Sporting were expected to roll over the visitors, who are yet to win a game in the competition. Oscar Bruzon’s side started with a flourish and by the time the 90-minute duel was over, they were expected winners.
Nigerian midfielder Ogba Kalu, who is now regular among the goals, opened the account early in the game. He scored in the 13th minute when Cajetan Fernandes swung in a delightful corner which was headed down by Rowllin Borges and Kalu, lurking nearby, was on hand to bundle the ball home from close range.
Sporting continued to dominate possession and when the second goal happened, it surprised nobody. Around the half hour mark, Sporting Clube doubled their lead when Cajetan swept in a deep corner which was met at the back post by Deepak Devrani.
Sporting Clube led 2-0 at the change of ends.
In the second session, there was no respite for Rangdajied. Sporting Clube scored their third and final goal 20 minutes before the final whistle when a long ball was trapped and finished nicely by Australian striker Karpeh.
Rangdajied goalkeeper Surjay Pariyar was called into action several times and made some decent saves throughout the game, including an excellent save from Victorino Fernandes in the 80th minute. Despite Pariyar’s good show, he could not prevent a 0-3 loss for his side, the second in as many matches.
