London: Gautam Gambhir had to alter his county season mid-way, as he returned home due to some personal reasons. However, he expected to return to the Essex fold very soon. Gambhir smashed a brilliant century in the last match against Gloucestershire and was expected to keep up his good run in the rest of the season.
Though, Essex Cricket and Gambhir hasn’t cleared the air on the matter, but one thing is for sure and that is Essex would be pleased to have someone like Gambhir, who returned to form in the previous match that was played at Bristol after his four failures, which had raised questions on his batting skills against the seamers.
Essex Cricket hopes that Gambir will return to Essex before the end of the 2013 English domestic season. Gambhir began his county career last month itself but wasn’t looking in great touch earlier. He ended up with scores of 31, 21, 2 and 0 in the first four matches after he scored a ton in his fifth match.
Gambhir has been dropped after the ODI series against England, as he wasn’t able to score on consistent basis from the past couple of years. A bout of jaundice after that didn't help his cause either.
He was not even selected for the Champions Trophy, the tri-series in the West Indies and the ODI tour of Zimbabwe, which gave a clear indication that he needs to pull up his socks and need to play some out of the box knocks in upcoming domestic season to get back into the national squad.
