Saina loses in quarters at Singapore, slips to 4th spot

saina-nehwalSingapore: India's Saina Nehwal lost to Indonesia's  Lindaweni Fanetri in the quarterfinal of Singapore Super Series here on friday.


Leading by one game, the Hyderabadi shuttler lost the momentum and went down 21-17 13-21 13-21 in less than 60 minutes against unseeded Fanetri at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.


Meanwhile the loss at Singalore, coupled with her poor performances in earlier tournaments, also affected Saina's world rankings as the Indian shuttler has dropped two places to fourth in the latest women's singles chart.


Saina's Hyderabadi team-mate P.V. Sindhu, who pulled out of the Singapore event Open due to an injury, also dropped a place to 12th.


In the men's singles, Parupalli Kashyap too slipped to 11th while R.M.V. Gurusaidutt and Ajay Jayaram maintained their 23rd and 25th places respectively. Sourabh Verma gained five places to 37 while Mumbai boy Anand Pawar retained 38th spot.


Meanwhile, Thailand Open winner K Srikkanth improved his ranking by two places as he is 42 now. B Sai Praneeth gained 16 places and is placed 45th.
