Umesh Yadav shines in Vidarbha victory

umeshyadavshinesinwinIndore: Spearhead of Indian pace attack, Umesh Yadav, is back with a bang as he picked up his first five-wicket haul after his return from lower-back injury. His five-wicket haul handed over the victory to Vidarbha as they beat the Odisha by 73 runs in a Super League (Group A) match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament here on Wednesday.


Umesh was featuring in his second-match after his recovery from injury and displayed some brilliant bowling against the Odisha batsmen as he ended up with the figures of 5/18 in his spell of three overs.

Meanwhile, Yadav’s teammate, Ravi Jangid scored a blistering half century and gave Vidarbha a solid grip after the end of first innings of the match as he took them to a 180 for eight in 20 overs. In reply to humongous target of Vidarbha, Odisha were bowled out for 107 in 14.3 overs.


Vidarbha had a shaky start after winning the toss and electing to bat first, as they lost three wickets in quick succession and score was just 33 runs in the first five overs. But left-handed Jangid showed some real fight back and did some match-building partnerships with Shalabh Shrivastava and Urvesh Patel of 54-runs and 39 runs for fourth and fifth wicket respectively.


But a cameo from Apoorv Wankhade (26 off 10 balls) took Vidarbha to huge total of 180 for eight in their quota of 20 overs. Odishan Pacer Basant Mohanty picked up three wickets for 30 runs while Suryakant Pradhan (2/22) ended picking up two wickets.


Odisha, in reply, didn’t started off well and kept losing their wickets on regular intervals and was left bamboozled by Umesh yadav and Faiz Fazal as they shared seven wickets between them.


Meanwhile in a Group B match, an extraordinary bowling show from Amitoze Singh helped Punjab to register a comfortable victory of nine-wickets over Baroda. He ended up with the figures of 3/15 and restricted the opposition to small total of 126.

Punjab openers successfully chased the small total of 126 with 32 balls to spare. Ravinder Singh scored a magnificent 69 off 51 balls which was studded with eight fours and two huge sixes before getting dismissed to Murtuja Vahora.


On the other hand, Mandeep Singh scored seven fours in his knock of 46 in 31balls and made sure that Punjab reaches home without losing any wickets. Quickie Murtuja Vahora (1/25) got the only wicket to have fallen in the Punjab's innings.
