Mumbai: Some responsible batting from senior men Wasim Jaffer and Abhishek Nayar helped Mumbai score 262/7 at the end of the first day’s play against Bengal in a Group A Ranji Match being played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai.
Mumbai after being put in to bat got off to a descent start. Jaffer (80) and Kaustubh Pawar saw the new ball through as Mumbai lost Pawar in the 17th over with the score at 39.
Mumbai then in a span of seven runs lost two quick wickets of Hiken Shah (0) and Rohit Sharma (1). Mumbai reeling at 46-3 needed a solid innings and that’s exactly what they got as Jaffer and Nayar (62) added 104 runs for the fourth wicket.
Both batsmen got out quickly after putting a hundred run-stand. Wicket-keeper batsman Aditya Tare (38) and Ankeet Chavan (35) then took the innings past the 200 run-mark.
Dhawal Kulkarni (24*) and Ramesh powar (1*) were at the crease at the end of the first day. Laxmi Ratan Shukla was the pick of Bengal’s bowlers picking four wickets.
