Indian GP: Vettel sets fastest timing in first practice sessionGreater Noida: Double defending champion Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull emerged the fastest driver at the first practice session of Indian Grand Prix here today.


The German winner here in 2011 sent out a strong signal to his rivals with a best lap timing of 1:27:619s, 0.310s ahead of McLaren’s Jenson Button.


Fernando Alonso
of Ferrari who was hot on Vettel’s heel for the Championship clocked 1:28:044 to set the third best timing of the first free practice session.


Button’s teammate Lewis Hamilton finished fourth with a timing of 1:28:046


Mark Webber clocked 1:28: 175 to take the fifth spot and following him was Nico Rosberg of Mercedes with 1:28: 447.


Meanwhile Sahara Force India driver Paul di Resta did the 11th best lap with a timing of 1:29: 760 and his team-mate Nico Hulkenburg was on 14th with best lap timing of 1:29:850.


Lone Indian driver Narain Karthikeyan of HRT clocked 1:32:125 and took the 22nd spot.
