Chandigarh: Yuki Bhambri defeated New Zealand's Daniel King Turner in a dramatic match to give India 1-0 lead in the Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group I. Yuki Bhambri was two set down and was on a brink of losing, but he played some superbly from there to win the match 3-6 0-6 6-2 6-4 6-2 in five sets.
Yuki looked out of sorts in the first set and the Kiwi took complete advantage of that fact and sealed the first set in the match being played at CLTA tennis stadium.
In the second set Turner upped the tempo and that resulted in unforced errors from Yuki. The Kiwi player won the second set without dropping a game.
Yuki in the third set looked more settled and focused on long rallies rather than finishing the point quickly, the strategy worked for the him and he won the third set 6- after breaking his opponent’s serve twice.
In the fourth set, Yuki broke his opponent’s serve in the first game to get the advantage. From there he did well and won all his service game to win the set.
In the fifth and the final set both players missed several opportunities to break each other serve, Yuki held his nerves better and won the match which went for three hours and fifteen minutes.
