New Delhi: All India Tennis Federation showing intolerance to indiscipline has dropped Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna from the upcoming Davis Cup team event against New Zealand scheduled to be held from September 14.
While Leander Paes and Somdev Devvarman have made themselves unavailable for the event after they made themselves unavailable for the selection the AITA has decided that it was time to build a strong junior team comprising Yuki Bhambri, Vishnu Vardhan, Saketh Myneni, Divij Sharan, Sanam Singh and Sri Ram Balaji.
The axing of Bhupathi and Bopanna came after they denied to pair up against Paes in the Olympics and insisted on playing together for the men’s doubles event.
AITA complied to their demands however saving the punishment for later and now after their decision to leave the seniors out of the squad sets a precedent that there is absolutely no room for indiscipline.
India would play to stay in Asia/Oceania Group I when they play the Kiwis in Chandigarh.
