Canberra: Dipika Pallikal created history by becoming the first Indian to enter the semifinals of a Gold Series event after defeating Amanda Sobhy 11-5, 11-7, 12-10 in straight sets in the Australian Squash Open being played in Canberra.
Deepika will now meet world number four Laura Massaro from England in the semifinals. Deepika looked in control from the initial minutes of the match and finished the match in three straight sets.
Deepika in her quarterfinal match registered a scintillating 3-1 victory over sixth seeded Camille Serme of France.
