New Delhi: MC Mary Kom has criticised the standards of refereeing in the boxing events of the London Olympics and she feels it was not only India but there were protests from other participants also.
While Mary Kom achieved a first for India in the sport by winning the bronze in the 51kg class, the men's team surprisingly failed to win a medal.
India was worst hit by refereeing in the competition and controversial judgement were made during the bout of of Sumit Sangwan, Manoj Kumar and Vikas Krishan.
Krishan for instance won his bout but then the decision was overruled later which brought an early end to his campaign.
Kom is the only Indian pugilists amongst the eight member Indian boxing contingent who came back with a medal. Kom who won the bronze in 51 kgs weight category of the women’s boxing said that she disappointed as she expected couple of medals from the men’s team but then refereeing put them down.
"We expected two-three medals from them. I don’t feel good that the boys did not win. Lot of politics on were going on this time around and lot of protest was happening. It was not only us, the other countries also objected to decisions. Things like these should not happen in the Olympics. Some of judges and referees did not have the experience," she said during a felicitation ceremony here.
