London: Indian wrestling campaign at the London Olympics started off on a disappointing note as the Amit Kumar Dahiya and Narsingh Pancham Yadav have crashed out of the event on Friday at the Excel Centre here.
While Narsingh bowed out in his opening match of 74 kgs, Amit crashed out in the second round of the repechage round in the 55 kgs weight category.
Amit started the proceedings well picking up a comprehensive victory over the Asian champion Hassan Sabzali Rahimi of Iran in the pre-quarter final. It was an intense match and both the wrestlers fought hard for the win but then eventually the Indian was declared winner.
But then he however could not hold on to his winning run and was defeated by the Vladimer Khinchegashvili of Georgia 1-3. But then as luck would have it, the Georgian advanced to the final and the Indian got one more chance.
But Amit failed to capitalise on it and lost 0-3 to Radoslav Marinov Velikov of Bulgaria to lose out on a place in the bronze medal play-off tie.
Meanwhile Amit’s senior pro Narsingh did not have much to offer as he lost his pre-quarterfinal bout against Canada’s Matthew Judah Gentry, who scripted a comfortable 3-1 victory.
