Olympics: Vijender Singh knocked out in quarters

Vijender SinghLondon: Beijing Olympics bronze medallist Vijender Singh lost his quarterfinals match against Abbos Atoev 13-17 in the quarterfinal of the men’s 75kg at the London Olympics.

Vijender who was one of the biggest medal contenders for India was knocked out of the competition at the ExCel Arena.

Both the boxers started steadily and the first round ended with both players on three points. The second round saw Atoev of Uzbekistan getting the better of his opponent as he got the two points lead and won the second round 7-5.

The Uzbek boxer displayed tremendous defensive skills to block the Indian and win the match. If Vijender would have won the match then he would have become the first individual athlete to win two medals.

Earlier in the day, MC Mary Kom won her quarterfinal match to ensure India a medal.
