London: Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal will fight it out today against Wang Xin from China for a bronze medal at the London Olympics. Saina earlier lost her semifinal clash against the world number one Wang Yihan in straight games.
Saina in the process became the first Indian shuttler to reach the semi-final stage of the Olympics. But things did not go her way in the semis as she lost 13-21, 13-21.
It will be an all Chine finals between Wang Yihan and Li Xuerui who defeated Xin 22-20 21-18.
Saina Nehwal fought valiantly against Wang but the Chinese ensured that there was no coming back in the match for the fourth seeded Indian. Wang started the game well and won the first game with ease. Her long reach ensured that there was no open space for Saina to capitalize on.
Saina in the second game looked in better rhythm and took the lead at the half-way stage with score at 11-10 in her favor. But Wang came back strongly with her smashes and deft touches. She gained the lead and the errors started creeping from Saina’s racquet.
