London Olympics: India lose to Germany 2-5

London Olympics: India go down to Black SticksLondon: Indian hockey team suffered a humiliating 2-5 defeat against the defending champions Germany. India is now out of the reckoning for the semi-finals spot after their third consecutive defeat.

The men in blue were in a must-win situation, but the formidable German team took the lead in only the 7th minute of the match when Florian Fuchs scored the first goal from the three he hit.

Indians did well to fight back and got the equalizer from VR Raghunath five minutes later. But, that was the only savoring moment for India in the match because what followed was simply heart-breaking for the Indian hockey fans.

Germans after conceding the equalizer got things under control and virtually toyed with the Indian team. The Indian defenders looked lost against their counterparts and Germany got the lead in the 16th minute.

Germans kept their foot on the paddle and went 4-1 up at the half-way stage. Fuchs scored his hat-trick in the first minute of the second half. India did get a consolation goal from Tushar Khandker in the 62nd minute but that was not enough to save India from an embarrassing loss.
