London: London Olympic has so far been more of woeful than productive for India, and rower Swarn Singh took the onus upon himself to bring some respite to the Indian contingent as he saw off a tense challenge from South Korean rival Kim Dongyong to win the single sculls repechage round and book a berth in the last eight here today.
Swarn finished fourth in the heats yesterday, finished the complete distance of 2 kms in 7:00.49 at Eton Dorney Rowing Centre. He had earlier clocked 6:54.04 in the heats yesterday.
He was trailed by Kim who took 7:03.91 to finish on second. He also made it to the quarterfinals to be held on Tuesday.
The 23 year Punjab rower led the race from the start and barring Kim none could pose a threat to him.
