New Delhi: Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal defeated Sapsiree Taerattanachai of Thailand 21-10 22-20 to reach the semifinals of the ongoing Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold.
Saina stamped her authority very early on the match winning eight straight points in the first game. She controlled the rallies beautifully and ended the points with some good smashes. She won the first game very easily.
In the second game, home favorite Taerattanachai came back strongly and got the early needed. The game went down to the wire and there was point when both players were tied at 19 points. Saina held her nerves better and finished the match.
Saina now awaits the winner of the match between Japan's Nozomi Okuhara and third seed Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand.
