Margaon: Churchill Brothers Coach Subhas Bhowmick is keeping his fingers crossed and hoping Churchill Brothers Sports Club can finish a creditable second in the I-League. For that to happen, Churchill will not just have to put it across Pailan Arrows at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Sunday (April 5), but will also have to hope that neither Pune FC nor East Bengal add any further points to their tally.
Churchill stay on 45 points from 25 matches while Pailan are on 16 points from 25 matches.
“A second-placed finish will be a good achievement for the team. I have told them to target the second spot. We can only win our match against Pailan Arrows, the rest is not in our hands,” said Bhowmick, the Churchill Technical Director.
Churchill will be without the likes of Gouramangi Singh and Denzil Franco -- both suspended -- for the final league clash but Bhowmick has enough on the bench to help them sail through. His only worry is that the players should not remain demoralised by the poor performance in the first leg against Pailan Arrows where they finished goalless.
“The condition in the away match were not conducive for football. We will be a much better side on Sunday,” said Bhowmick.
Pailan Arrows, in fact, dominated the home match against Churchill at Kolkata and with two consecutive victories under their belt will be confident they can finish the season on a high with a hat-trick of victories.
The kick-off is slated for 6pm.
