Margao: Dempo will take on Sporting Clube de Goa in a 24th round I-League clash at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Sunday. Dempo’s coach Armando Colaco has said that Sporting will be tough to negotiate.
Dempo have opened a seven point lead at the top of the table and are overwhelming favorites to regain the title. But coach Armando Colaco has said Sporting Clube de Goa will be tough to negotiate when the two teams meet in a 24th round I-League clash at the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda on Sunday.
“Sporting created plenty of problems for us in the first match. We eventually managed to win but they surely have some quality. Also it is dangerous to assume that we are the champions. We still have at least two matches to win from the remaining three,” said Colaco.
“The boys proved themselves against Churchill with a stunning performance in the second session. They woke up to the challenge and proved that they are best in the business. I am expecting a similar performance from them tomorrow,” said the former India coach.
Sporting Clube de Goa technical director Alex Alvares understands that Dempo are a superior side but is making his own plans to stiffle the favourites.
“Dempo are certainly a good side, there is no doubt about it but I am expecting my boys to make it difficult for them,” said Alvares.
Alvares will not have reliable stopper-back and captain Samananda Singh for Sunday’s clash but is expected to draw from his reserves to help them sail through.
Sporting Clube, eighth on the table with 37 points, have won two matches on the trot and are now looking for an unlikely hat-trick of wins.
