Mumbai: Aditya Mehta defeated Andrew Pagget of Wales in the first round match at the World Professional Snooker Championships at Sheffield. With the win, the Mumbai-based player became the first Indian to win a match at the World Championships in a decade.
Aditya trailed for almost the entire match in the best of 19 format. From 2-5 down, he finished the morning session strongly with breaks of 62 and 103 to close the gap to 4-5.
In the evening session, Aditya trailed by a frame or two till 6-8. After that he won four consecutive frames to close out the match 10-8.
Aditya is currently ranked World No.82.
The Championship sees the participation of the top 100 players. (IANS)
