Gurgaon: S Chikkarangappa carded a two-under 70 and move into sole lead at the end of the third round of the IGU-sanctioned Northern India Amateur Championships at the par-72 Golden Greens on Thursday. The two-time all India Matchplay champion, Chikka, had three birdies and no bogeys on the back nine for 70 and a total of one-under 215 for three days. Chikka is the only player under par, while two others are one-over.
Chikka is two ahead of Syed Saqib Ahmed (70). Saqib is now at 217 and tied for second with Khalin Joshi (71). Overnight leader Trishul Chinappa slipped with a third round 76 and at 218 he was fourth. Interestingly the top four are all from Bangalore.
Delhi golfer Honey Baisoya (70) was lying fifth at 221 after first two rounds of 74 and 77.
Chikka started with a bogey and had another on the par-5 fifth to go to two-over. Then he birdied the ninth and turned the corner with two more birdies on 10th and 11th and a closing one on 18th. Saqib birdied the second and eighth and dropped a shot on par-5 fifth. He had one birdie on the back nine and no bogeys for a 70.
