Asia Cup: India to lock horns with Sri Lanka

Asia Cup: India to lock horns with Sri LankaDhaka: India will take on Sri Lanka in their first match of the ongoing Asia Cup. The two teams met recently in Australia and going by the performance that they showed in those matches, the match will be another nail-biter. India played Sri Lanka four times in Australia, out of the four matches India won two, Lanka one and one match was a tie.

The last match that the two teams played saw an extraordinary performance by Indian batsmen. India entered the match in a must-win-situation and had to win with a bonus point to keep their hopes alive for qualifying in the finals.

Indian hopes took a major blow as the Lankan’s put a stiff total of 320 and India needed to score at a run-rate of over eight to win with the bonus points. India did the unthinkable and chased down the target in the 37th over, thanks to Virat Kohli’s 133* which won him the man of the match as well as the vice-captaincy for this trip.

Sri Lanka however got over the debacle and defeated Australia to end Indian dreams of qualifying for the finals.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow and this time they will be playing in the conditions that are more suited to them. The Lankans will be high on confidence after their terrific performance in Australia where they were very close to winning the title. India on the other hand had two back to back tours and will be looking to change that.

On paper, India still look the better side as they have got a lot of fire-power n their batting and every Indian batsmen will be relishing the opportunity t play on slow and low tracks as they are virtually unstoppable on these pitches.

The men-in-blue will be looking to start the series with a win as there has been a lot of criticism surrounding Indian cricket and the only way they can stop them is by winning.
