Rahul Dravid will be missed badly: Sourav Ganguly

New Delhi: Ahead of the semifinal clash between Punjab and Bengal of the Vijay Hazare trophy, both Harbhajan Singh and Sourav Ganguly spoke about the retirement of the batting great Rahul Dravid.

Harbhajan Singh said, “Rahul Dravid has been a role model for all of us. The way he prepares himself before a match and looked after his fitness is a lesson in itself for youngsters. I have shared the dressing room with him for more than 10 years and I can say that he is a legend not only in Indian cricket but also world cricket.”

“Rahul is basically a great student of the game. The fact that he called all his ex-teammates two days before to tell that he is going to retire from international cricket, before they came to know from the media, shows how great a person he is off-field too. Team always came first for him, rather than self. He played a vital role in making Indian the No.1 Test side”, said Bhajji.

Sourav Ganguly who made his test debut alongside Dravid said, “I share a lot of special memories with Rahul Dravid while playing for India. We started our career together in the Lord’s Test, and then while I was the captain he became the vice-captain. I have played under his captaincy also. His level of dedication is exemplary and it has stayed the same day in and day out. He will be missed badly.

Along with his batting, his slip catching will also be missed, “I will miss him in the slip cordon. Without him standing in that position, it will be a new experience for me”, said Harbhajan.

On the future of Indian cricket, Ganguly said, “There are youngsters like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Cheteswar Pujara who are playing well but they need to perform. Dravid is going at a time when the Indian team needs some changes.
