Delhi continue their winning streak in Vijay Hazare Trophy

New Delhi: Delhi beat Haryana by four wickets in a league match of Vijay Hazare Trophy at Firoze Shah Kotla Ground here on Sunday.

Winning the toss, Delhi skipper Rajat Bhatia once again decided to field first. A magnificent bowling display by Delhi made sure that Haryana did not score a winning total. Though Rahul Diwan tried to take Haryana to a formidable total, the home side was good enough to wrap up their neighbouring state for 213.

In reply, Delhi was off to a flying start, thanks to some wonderful stroke play by Unmukt, before he got out on 35.Unlike previous match, Shikar Dhawan could not do much with the bat and went cheaply for 17.Two down, it was important for Delhi to have a big partnership and Puneet joined Mohit sharma to take the side cross 100. Puneet had luck going his way when he was dropped in gully. Finally he was run out for 31 when Delhi’s scorecard read 119.

But Mohit continued playing sensibly, scoring occasional boundaries by putting away the loose balls. He looked composed throughout the innings except for once when he played an ambitious shot by coming down the ground, but wicket keeper failed to do the stumping on time which denied a much-needed breakthrough for Haryana. Mohit went on to score 61.

Delhi dealt it in singles and doubles in middle overs. The only time they felt some sort of threat was in final overs when Haryana bowlers contained the run-flow by bowling some tight length. But, captain Rajat Bhatia made sure that his team crossed the winning total without further damage. Delhi will now play Services in their next match.
