London: Former World No. 1 Roger Federer will fight for his record eighth Wimbledon title as he will take on World No 24 Marin Cilic at the Wimbledon’s Centre Court in the final, here on Sunday.
On Friday, the Swiss legend enthralled the crowd with his vintage game as he went on to beat World No 11 Czech Tomas Berdych 7-6(4), 7-6(4) 6-4 in the semi-final.
Federer, after the match, said, “I thought it was close. Even though I feel like it reminded me of the matches I've had this tournament on some occasions, you know, there were chances for the opponent. I was able to come up with the goods when it mattered.”
Meanwhile, Cilic, the 2014 US Open champion, defeated Sam Querrey 6-7(6), 6-4, 7-6(3), 7-5 in four minutes under three hours, to become just the second Croatian into the final here after Goran Ivanisevic in 2001.
