Charleston: Samantha Stosur of Australia moved into the semifinals of the WTA Charleston Clay Court Event after she defeated Venus Williams 6-3, 4-6, 6-3.

This was her first career victory of Venus after losing four of their previous duels. Stosur delivered four aces, won 61% of her first-serve points and saved eight-of-12 break point she conceded.

Meanwhile Serena Williams also made it to the semis after Sabine Lisicki conceded the match due an ankle injury she received after she fell during the match. Serena was leading 5-1 when Lisicki retired from the match.
