Castellon: Nicolas Almagro and David Ferrer won their Davis Cup singles match to give the defending champion Spain a 2-0 quarterfinal lead over Austria on Friday.
Almagro, who finished the match in less than two hours broke Juergen Melzer five times to win the match 6-2, 6-2, 6-4.
David Ferrer ranked fifth in the World defeated 139th-ranked Andreas Haider-Maurer 6-1, 6-3, 6-1 .
Spain who now play doubles on Sunday can move into the semis if they win it.
Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez of Span are scheduled to take on Alexander Peya and Oliver Marach in the doubles match on Suninay.
Meanwhile, France tied with USA with Jo-Wilfried Tsonga of France, beating teenager Ryan Harrison of USA 7-5, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 and then later US lad John Isner drew parity when he defeated Gilles Simon 6-3, 6-2, 7-5 in Monte Carlo.
