Miami: Venus Williams made it to the third round of the Sony Ericsson open after she beat world number three Petra Kvitova played here yesterday.

Venus who came out off a long injury layoff after she withdrew from US Open last year due to Sjogren’s syndrome took two hours and 18 minutes dispose off the Czech Kvitiva 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

Meanwhile World number one Victoria Azarenka from Belarus also eased past Dutch player Michaella Krajicek 6-3, 7-5 to make it to the third round.  She now has extended her winning streak to 24 matches this season. She now would face off against British wildcard Heather Watson, who defeated Czech Lucie Safarova 6-2, 6-1.
