Sony Ericsson Open: Fernando Gonsalez loses in his last match

 

Miami: Fernando Gonzalez of Chile lost the last match of his career as he was beaten 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3) by France’s Nicolas Mahut in the first round of the Sony Ericsson Open on Wednesday.

 

The former world No. 5 Gonzalez, had announced prior to the tournament that this would be his final ATP competition.

The 31-year-old Gonzalez finished with a career record of 371-202 and won 11 titles.

In other match played, Argentine David Nalbandian defeated Steve Darcis 6-4, 7-6 (7-0). Nalbandian who committed five double faults in the match compensated it with saving 5-of-9 break chances to gain upper hand over his Belgian opponent.
