Indian Wells, California: Former Champion of Russia Maria Sharapova of Russia survived a scare to come back from behind to defeat compatriot Maria Kirilenko 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 at the BNP Paribas Open played here on Thursday.
Sharapova who entered the tournament second seeded looked fragile and after conceding the first set and dropping first two games in the second set came back strong to finish off the match in three hours and five minutes.
Sharapova will face off against former world number one Ana Ivanovic of Serbia, who cruised past Marion Bartoli 6-3, 6-4.
