Indian Wells, California: Second seeded Maria Sharapova and 2006 winner of the BNP Paribas Open winner defeated Romanian Simona Halep to make it to the fourth round of the BNP Paribas Open on Monday.
The World number two Sharapova won the match 6-3, 6-4.
In other matches, Caroline Wozniacki defeated Sofia Arvidsson of Sweden 3-6, 7-5, 6-2 and Ana Ivanovic defeated Ksenia Pervak 6-7 (8-10), 6-3, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Nadia Petrova defeated U.S. Open champ Samantha Stosur 6-1, 6-7 (6-8), 7-6 (7-5).
