Dubai: World number one, Novak Djokovic of Serbia was awarded with one of the International Tennis Writers Association’s Ambassadors of the Year. Paul Newman, co-president of ITWA presented him the world. Djokovic got the award after he reached the semi-final of the recently concluded Dubai open.
The ITWA looks for a number of things before deciding the player; some of the qualities that they look for are the player’s achievement on and off the field, the player’s way of conducting himself and the co-operation with the media among others.
Caroline Wozniacki won the award in the women’s category. Djokovic had a great last year and kink-started 2012 by winning the Australian Open, where he defeated Rafael Nadal in an epic match.
