Kuala Lumpur: Fifth seeded Petra Martic of Croatia defeated third seeded Peng Shuai of China in a rain affected quarterfinals of the BMW Malaysian Open here on Friday.
Peng was two points from victory Martic's serve, but the Croat ran away with the second set in a tie-break and again broke Peng's serve at 5-4 in the third set to clinch the match 4-6 7-6(3) 6-4 and storm into the semis.
Talking of the win, Petra said, "It is a great feeling to beat a Top 20 player after so long," Martic said. "I took advice from my coach, who told me to play the game on a point-by-point basis and not to think of the outcome of the match.”
"I'm happy. This is probably the one time I've been so aggressive and it worked," said the 20 year old Croat.
Meanwhile the qualifier Hsieh Su-Wei of China advanced into the semis to face Eleni Daniilidou of Greece as she was awarded a walkover because her opponent did not turn up for the match due to an elbow injury.
